Thumbnails of Tercon successes:
- Leadership Development: Tercon developed a Leadership Competency Model to describe the behaviors needed to meet and exceed the cost, quality and safety objectives of a major capital project. The objective was to deliver world-class results, on or ahead of schedule, for this multi-billion dollar organization. The client deemed the project a success and noted Tercon’s intervention as a key component.
- High-Performance Teams: Successful completion of a crucial milestone for a major capital project was in jeopardy. Tercon was asked to improve team dynamics and communications concerning work quality and price, meeting tight deadlines and establishing the basis for a long-term, positive working relationship. Tercon interviewed key players from both organizations to identify cultural differences that were impacting communication, and to pinpoint areas needing renewed clarity and commitment. We then held sessions to rebuild trust, established new working guidelines and a structure to keep agreements in place to get things back on track.
- Organization Capability: Tercon has defined a Technical Professional Competency Model for a rapidly growing global engineering consulting company to develop the leadership capabilities of their scientists and engineers. Using custom tools, Tercon gathered information on the extent to which the desired skill sets were present, identified specific training needs and designed a highly experiential learning curriculum. Tercon gained closure with the client by providing follow-up measurements to validate the extent to which the process had been effective.
- Coaching and Development: Tercon just launched the fourth session of the Leadership Forum with a local city government. This 6-month internal leadership development program offers a fully-integrated leadership development process. Participants begin with 360-feedback and then combine individual coaching, classroom sessions, informal discussion groups, action learning, community service, and multiple opportunities to deepen understanding of each City department. The goal is to continue building the community and culture of leadership and service commitment throughout each level of the City organization.
- Major Capital Project 1: Working with a Fortune Global Top Ten client, Tercon was engaged by project leadership to achieve an integrated and measurable program of activities in support of a multi-billion dollar project involving, at its peak, 6,500 people from multiple international and regional scope contractors. This project was comprised of a variety of teams, agendas and timelines, all requiring on-target, on time performance. Tercon consultants began by establishing project and team charters using joint goal setting processes and follow-up mechanisms; built team integration protocols for blending the simultaneous efforts of different teams; charted roles and responsibilities with the teams – no gaps, no overlaps; and mapped communication matrices for key information exchange in a timely manner. Other project elements included manpower loading tables, transition planning for mobilization and de-mobilization of resources in an effective fashion, and procedure development for phase closure and turnover of assets to insure operational integrity.
- Major Capital Project 2: This West African project, with a broad variety of different cultures actively engaged every day, is one of the largest projects of its type in the world; the project budget exceeds $11 billion. Tercon was tasked by executive leadership to assist in the construct of the Execution Plan, establish processes and work habits to enhance efficiency, execution and progress measures. In addition to the tactical elements of the Plan, Tercon worked with the teams to create Leadership Expectation Models to govern expected behavior and set limits on acceptable behavior. Tercon produced responsibility charts and measured the degree of effectiveness in handoffs from the engineering team to the construction team. Progress was measured via a dashboard using a series of stakeholder analysis tools focused on cost, schedule, safety, quality and other measures selected by leaders. Particularly important in this environment were the tools used to effect task turnover. By using a unique ‘back-to-back’ task turnover and success measurement process, Tercon enabled leader and key team member changes to be effective and efficient.
